9 Ways You Can Honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg
With the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Americans are feeling a sense of loss, dread, and fear about the possibility of a hard-right Supreme Court.
So, we feel that all Americans who care passionately about freedom of speech, equality, and an independent Judiciary, should honor Justice Ginsburg’s legacy, the same way she taught us to. Through activism.
Below are 9 organizations you can volunteer for, right now, in order to help shape the America that Justice Ginsburg inspired us to dream of.
SEA CHANGE
Sea Change Leadership PAC worked to help flip the House of Representatives in 2018 by supporting the resistance movement and candidates for office, and by training and mobilizing volunteers to educate and engage voters. Launched by California Democratic Congressmember Karen Bass, Sea Change connects community members, activists, and organizations that are resisting the Trump agenda.
REGISTER BLUE
From understanding the voter registration form to role playing, we fully equip people to engage unregistered voters in the democratic process.
ROCK THE VOTE
In 1990, music executives founded Rock the Vote in response to the censorship of hip-hop and rap artists. Our first partnership, with MTV, promoted the message that “Censorship is Un-American” and activated millions of young people across the country to exercise their rights and represent their interests. For thirty years, we have continuously adapted to the changing landscapes of media, technology and culture to breakthrough and empower each new generation.
FIELD TEAM 6
Now that we’re all avoiding crowds, our conversations happen over the phone, via text, or on social media. Pants are now optional. We’re using data analytics, targeting software and our very own nerd brains to hunt down unregistered progressives and get them on the voter rolls where they belong. And to sign up every registered Democrat to vote from home!
SPREAD THE VOTE
At Spread The Vote, we help members of our communities empower themselves to be heard at the polls: with IDs, registration, education, and turnout.
CODE BLUE
Code Blue, created in response to the 2016 election, is a coalition of motivated Democrats committed to helping elect candidates who best match our progressive values and who are most likely to vote with Democrats.
CIVIC SUNDAYS
What we do: Progressive election action. Postcarding, phone and text banking, voter registration, canvassing.
How we do it: By gathering at a home with blank cards, addresses, phones, and laptops and getting to work. Or by hitting the pavement with local organizations and campaigns.
When we do it: Every single Sunday.
Grassroots Democrats
In 2018, we knew we had to win a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives to save our country from Donald Trump and the GOP. Our leadership oversaw a network of 4,000 volunteers who made 1.9 million phone calls and knocked on thousands of doors. Together we flipped seven Congressional districts in California, helping Democrats win their largest House majority in a decade. Now, we must defend the California Seven, and continue our work to take back the White House and the Senate in 2020.
Mobilize.US
Mobilize is the events management and volunteer recruitment platform that connects mission-driven organizations and their supporters.
