One More Time…

The smoke and dust were settling, glimmering in the sunset.

He laid there on the ground, impaled through his stomach. Before it was too late, she wanted to look into his eyes one more time. She knelt down.

“It’s gonna be OK. Everyone’s going to be safe now.” she said.

“I know.” He whispered, trying to find his voice. “I told you I could do it. I’m strong, remember?”

Tears shed down her face. “I know.” she began sobbing, “I don’t believe in anyone, but I believed in you.”

With what little energy he had left, he raised his hand to touch her cheek, “Believe in yourself…” and suddenly, the vibrant life left his body, and his arm fell to the ground.

She looked down at him, now gone forever, and sobbed uncontrollably.
