We’ve tried Capitalism, we’ve Communism, we’ve tried Fascism, and Authoritarianism, and we still, as a species, keep finding ourselves in the same terrible places.

In Adam Curtis’ documentary, HyperNormalisation, he points out the many flaws of the last 50 years, as well as the ongoing dilemma of a society striving for change, but not knowing how to execute that change, or even what real change would look like. Too often our leaders and gatekeepers care more about minimizing the risk of negative futures, instead of assertively pursuing positive ones.

Creating a Utopia on Earth is an ambitious goal, as it entails the achievement of a perfect society where everyone’s needs and desires are fulfilled. However, I think we can all look around and agree, as far as our society and utopia, this ain’t it. So, building on our past work in this arena, we wanted to provide a comprehensive roadmap for a new vision of what a peaceful world could look like:

Establish a Vision:

• The Arab Spring was a huge missed opportunity. Across the Middle East, a dozen nations were poised to radically change their governance in a way that hadn’t occurred since the fall of the Soviet Union. However, despite the dramatic fervor, almost none of the countries actually saw a change. Some have speculated that this was because there was not a cohesive vision of what would come next, and the only thing that could be agreed upon was that the old system needed to go. So, Greater & Grander has various plans in the works too, in accordance with research done by The Albert Einstein Institute, and activist groups like Beautiful Trouble, we will be drafting a series of documents on effectively a ‘starter constitution’. These documents will coalesce inputs from American and European democracies, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the works of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, to create a clear and cohesive vision for many around the world. Our goal is to have a finished draft completed, and translated into at least 6 major languages of the world within the next 5 years.
• Define the fundamental goals, such as equality, justice, sustainability, well-being, and harmony.

Promote Education:

• Make education a top priority, ensuring that it is accessible, free, and high-quality for all individuals.
• Focus on holistic education, including academic, emotional, ethical, and practical skills.
• Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and innovation to foster a society of lifelong learners.
• In the short term, adopt the Freedom Schools initiative principles;
  • Invest in public schools, not jails Public Schools need more teachers, smaller classrooms, and better resources, and to give a second chance to those coming home from prison
  • Fight for fact-based education Including the subjects of Evolution, Sex Education, and Climate Change
  • Protect funding for a well-rounded education Including Civics, the Arts, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
  • Protect education equality Including DACA students, Refugee students, and trans bathroom rights; and combat gendered violence on campus, and ICE efforts to negatively affect families of immigrants
  • Affordable and debt-free college Allows students to refinance student loan debt to take advantage of lower interest rates and support debt-free college
  • Universal and Affordable Childcare Make Pre-K, after-school programs, and childcare universal and affordable
  • Healthy Schools Support healthy school lunches and school breakfasts for low-income students
  • Upgrade Middle Schools Aggressively support plans to upgrade and invest in middle schools, to prevent drop-out factories
  • Prohibit Weapons on all school grounds, unless carried by law enforcement officials

Foster Equality and Social Justice:

• Implement laws and policies that promote equal rights, regardless of gender, race, religion, or socioeconomic background.
• Create a fair and just legal system that upholds the principles of justice, accountability, and transparency.
• Provide support for marginalized groups, addressing their specific needs and ensuring their inclusion in all aspects of society.

Ensure Sustainable Development:

• Transition to a sustainable and regenerative economy, minimizing the exploitation of natural resources and promoting renewable energy sources.
• Implement strict environmental regulations to protect ecosystems, combat climate change, and preserve biodiversity.
• Encourage sustainable consumption and production patterns, promoting the circular economy and reducing waste.

Enhance Healthcare and Well-being:

• Establish a comprehensive healthcare system that provides universal access to high-quality medical care, including preventive measures, mental health support, and rehabilitation services.
• Prioritize mental health awareness and provide resources for its treatment and prevention.
• Promote healthy lifestyles through education, public health campaigns, and infrastructure that encourages physical activity.

Promote Peace and Conflict Resolution:

• Invest in diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution strategies to avoid violence and warfare.
• Strengthen international cooperation and organizations that work towards global peace and security.
• Foster a culture of tolerance, empathy, and understanding to reduce prejudice, discrimination, and social divisions.

Ensure Democratic Governance:

• Establish a transparent and participatory democratic system that upholds the rule of law, respects human rights, and encourages citizen engagement.
• Promote accountability, integrity, and ethical behavior in government institutions.
• Facilitate regular elections, freedom of speech, and media independence to ensure the representation of diverse voices.

Foster Technological Advancements:

• Embrace technological advancements and scientific research to enhance the quality of life and address societal challenges.
• Ensure that emerging technologies are developed ethically and used for the benefit of all.
• Bridge the digital divide by providing access to technology and digital literacy programs for everyone.
• Keep an eye on technologies that develop processes and procedures for a better functioning and happier society.

Encourage Cultural Diversity and Expression:

• Celebrate and embrace cultural diversity, promoting cultural exchange and understanding.
• Support the arts, literature, and cultural expressions that enrich society and foster creativity.
• Preserve cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge, promoting their integration into contemporary society.

Establish International Collaboration:

• Engage in international partnerships to address global challenges collectively, such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and public health crises.
• Promote cultural exchange, mutual respect, and understanding among nations.
• Collaborate on scientific research, sharing knowledge and resources for the betterment of humanity.

Continual Evaluation and Adaptation:

• Regularly evaluate progress toward the Utopian vision and make necessary adjustments.
• Seek feedback from citizens and experts to address emerging challenges and refine policies and programs.
